Are you interested in contributing to the strategic direction of an international social science infrastructure? The Generations and Gender Program (GGP) is looking for a senior coordinator who will work closely with the director of the GGP. This is a Dutch-speaking position.
This is what you will do
The project
The Generations and Gender Program is an international research infrastructure in the field of population and family dynamics. Working within the framework of the European Union, our mission is to collect and make available high-quality research data to better address scientific and societal issues related to demographic change. Our main instrument is the Generations & Gender Survey (GGS), a unique longitudinal and internationally comparable data source on families and people’s life courses. New data is currently being collected in several European, Asian and South American countries.
The headquarters of the GGP (Central Hub) is part of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) and located in the center of The Hague. With an international team of 6 colleagues, we are responsible for the day-to-day management of the GGP, including providing support to national teams in collecting GGS data, processing the collected data for release to the scientific community and collaborating with the stakeholders of the GGP at home and abroad.
The position
As a senior coordinator of GGP you have the unique opportunity to be part of a renowned research infrastructure of the European Union and you can help shape its future. This includes promoting the GGP in the Netherlands and abroad, helping to expand its geographical coverage, ensuring that the data collected is of high quality and collaborating with other research infrastructures. In addition, the position offers the opportunity to expand your international exposure and experience, gain valuable experience in coordinating an international and multidisciplinary team and participate in fundraising. Furthermore, the position, which is embedded in the NIDI, offers opportunities to work in a scientific environment and further develop your own research interests.
You bring this with you
You bring to GGP-NIDI a PhD in sociology, demography or another relevant discipline and at least 5 years of experience, including previous supervision or coordination experience (for example in leading your own research team or work package), and working with GGP or similar survey-based data. Good knowledge of the Dutch language is essential to communicate with Dutch stakeholders such as ministries.
In addition, your assets are: previous successful fundraising; and good track record of publications in substantive or methodological areas related to and experience with dissemination and networking activities.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with different stakeholders and can work well in a team. The ability to deal with rapid changes in priorities is a must. An excellent command of the English language is also necessary.
What do we offer?
This concerns an initial contract of 2 years, followed by a possible extension up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on performance and financing.
The position is offered as full-time (0.8 FTE to 1.0 FTE). You can also apply if you want to be seconded to the NIDI-KNAW for the duration of the contract.

About NIDI
The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European institute for demographic research. The NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen (RUG). The NIDI is located in the center of The Hague and offers a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population research. Currently, the Institute’s staff consists of approximately 65 employees with different levels of seniority and organized in a rather horizontal structure within four thematic research groups. The working environment is very international and NIDI offers plenty of opportunities for training and development.
Employment conditions
Depending on education and experience, the salary amounts to a minimum of 5,247 and a maximum of 7,305 gross per month for full-time employment (scale 12 / 13 collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities/KNAW). This excludes 8% holiday pay, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, travel allowance, internet and home work allowance and pension accrual with ABP.
The KNAW offers its employees an excellent package of secondary employment conditions. For example, by working two extra hours per week, it is possible to increase the number of vacation days from 29 to 41 days per year (with full-time employment).
